A Poem // The Bird's Apprentice
A short reflection after an Artist Residency in Albany, WA.
This is the first poem I have written in a long while. I plan to write a longer post about my residency but fatigue has been really hitting me after a chest infection I’ve had for nearly a month!
The Bird’s Apprentice
Teach me to live my days in this moment and love that I have a body and I can sing
How to puff up my feathers to keep the warmth in my heart
Eat, dance, sing, love, care
As the courting bird brings gifts to his lover, a collection of blue, a fat juicy worm.
As the djiti djiti dances, distracting us, to protect their babies.
What do we know about living?
As a rogue microcell, smaller than the scope can see breaks off to meet my lower spine.
What do I learn about living?

Beautiful image! And I think your poem is the most gracious response to what's happening to you. Sing on ....
